Campouts
New to Camping?
No worries! Cub Scout camping is family-friendly and beginner-friendly — this is not hardcore wilderness survival!
We’ve created a Camping Checklist below to help you know what to bring and how to prepare.
Our Pack usually goes on 2–3 campouts per year, and they’re often a favorite memory for the Scouts (and parents, too!). We typically camp at Lake Arrowhead or Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. These locations offer a great outdoor experience while still being close to home.
🍽️ Meals are provided and included in the campout fee — no need to stress about cooking over a fire (unless you want to!).
📱 All upcoming Pack campouts will be announced in GroupMe, so be sure you’re connected!
See the Individual Campout Checklist for Pack Overnighter on the Forms / Documents page for a checklist of camping gear you'll need.
Held every spring and fall at Camp Perkins, just 15 minutes from Wichita Falls, Cub’n’Pal is an awesome weekend campout hosted by the Northwest Texas Council.
Activities often include:
🎯 BB Guns
🏹 Archery
🪀 Slingshots
🎲 Games and Crafts
🛏️ Overnight camping required — each Scout must have a parent or guardian attend with them.
🍽️ Meals are provided by the Council and served in the dining hall.
These weekends are all about making memories, enjoying the outdoors, and bonding with your Scout.
👉 Come out, relax, and have fun — no experience needed!
Camp Perkins is the official Scout camp of the Northwest Texas Council, located just 15 minutes from Wichita Falls, along the Red River. It serves as the primary site for council events like Cub’n’Pal, day camps, and training weekends.
The camp features:
Designated family camping areas
Modern restrooms and showers
A dining hall for group meals
BB gun, archery, and slingshot ranges
Hiking trails and wide-open spaces for games and exploration
Camp Perkins offers a safe, well-maintained environment where Cub Scouts and their families can enjoy the outdoors, learn new skills, and make lasting memories together.
Packing the right gear can make your Pack Campout or Cub’n’Pal experience comfortable, fun, and stress-free! Here’s a helpful checklist and some tips to get your family ready for the weekend.
Filled refillable water bottle
First aid kit
Whistle
Flashlight or headlamp (with extra batteries)
Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat)
Trail food (trail mix, beef jerky)
And a backpack to carry them
Tent
A 4-person or larger tent offers plenty of space for a small family.
A 3-person tent is perfect for one Scout and their parent or guardian.
Tarp/Ground Cloth
Placing a tarp under your tent protects the bottom and extends its life.
Sleeping Gear
Sleeping bag OR sheets, blanket, and pillow
Optional: Inflatable mattress, pad, or cot for added comfort
Don’t forget an air pump for the inflatable mattress (battery-powered or manual)!
Outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather (jacket, hoodie, long sleeve shirts)
Extra changes of clothes
Night clothes/sleepwear
Closed-toe shoes (Camp Perkins has stickers—boots or sneakers are best!)
Rain gear (poncho or rain jacket)
Scout’s Class A uniform (official Cub Scout uniform)
Scout and parent’s Class B shirt (Pack t-shirt) T-shirts from CubnPal's make a great class B
Toiletries (Camp Perkins has restrooms and showers)
Camp chairs (foldable)
Small backpack or knapsack
Medication (if needed)
Hat or cap
Phone or camera to capture the fun!
Insect Repellent
Anything left outside overnight will likely be wet in the morning due to dew. Bring shoes and clothes inside your tent.
Avoid letting bedding or dry clothing touch the tent walls — condensation can make them damp.
Collapse and store camp chairs overnight to keep them dry.
And of course... don’t forget your pillows!
🎉 Most important of all — come ready to have fun and make memories!
